This was our second trip to Club Med Cancun, and overall, we remain very pleased with the week-long experience. We returned because it offers a relatively relaxing family vacation. It’s definitely not for everyone, but here’s my honest take:
Food: Overall consistently good and mos importantly, fresh. The main buffet offers a wide variety with plenty of healthy options, including a fresh salad station. There are always multiple fish and steak choices available each meal. As a French brand, Club Med excels at cold selections—think abundant cheeses, charcuterie, and a variety of fresh, soft breads. The ice cream is fantastic, with usually 7–8 different flavors on offer every day.
Taco Arte (à la carte dinner): Reservations required, and it was such a favorite that we dined there twice. The menu is mostly seafood-focused. The kids loved the coconut shrimp, while my lobster tail dish included half a baby lobster plus shrimp, fish, and octopus. My husband ordered the deep-fried catch of the day (red snapper) and received a very generous portion.
Service: One of the best parts of our stay. At Taco Arte, we especially appreciated the outstanding service from Elberth on our final night—he was attentive, accommodating with our young children, and made us feel like we were enjoying fine dining despite having three kids in tow. Rafael and Olivia were also wonderful on our first visit, patiently guiding us through the menu.
We celebrated our son’s birthday on short notice, yet head pastry chef Reynaldo created a beautiful chocolate cake, which Jeremias and Alfredo presented with candles and singing—our son was beaming ear to ear. Moments like these are what make us want to return again and again. From check-in to departure, the staff honored our advance requests and made us feel genuinely cared for.
Estancia steakhouse: also overall quite good. Our experience second time was better than the first, medium rare steak definitely was medium rare this time.
Entertainment: Pretty good overall—consistent and family-friendly. Admittedly our experience here is limited to kids hours.
Activities: A big plus, especially for kids. Standouts include archery, circus school, trampoline, and the water park. Personally, the yoga classes were a highlight for me. Marguerite leads both beginner and advanced sessions with positive, encouraging energy that welcomes every level. I returned morning after morning because she thoughtfully progresses the practice over the week—no two classes feel the same, which keeps it fresh and motivating. The other fitness classes were also solid and sufficiently intense but felt repetitive since it was similar each day.
Accommodations: This is probably the resort’s biggest limitation. As one of the oldest properties in Cancun, it’s showing its age. Even in the recently renovated Aguamarina section, Wi-Fi was spotty and completely non-functional in our room for the first four days. The shower setup includes both a handheld and rain shower head, but the diverter doesn’t switch fully between them, so you can’t get a true rain-shower-only experience. My parents stayed in Topacio—perfectly located right by the main beach—but that building is also in need of much updates. Sometimes the door needs extra nudge to close fully. Water pressure felt slow there. Every building is probably different though so we can't comment on rest of them. If modern living quarters are very important to your vacation, this is probably not the place.
In short, Club Med Cancun shines brightest for families seeking an easy, activity-packed all-inclusive escape with warm, attentive service and plenty of kid-friendly fun with a healthy focus. The food is reliably enjoyable, the activities (especially yoga and children’s programs) are excellent, and the staff create heartfelt memories that keep us coming back. While the aging accommodations and occasional tech glitches are noticeable drawbacks, they didn’t overshadow the overall relaxed vibe and genuine hospitality. If you prioritize experiences, connection, and value over sleek modern rooms, this resort is a solid choice.
